Every year Broadstairs holds a folk week festival. The seafront pubs have live music all day and the stalls sell everything from funky clothes and jewellery to delicious fudge. Clarence the Dragon and the Hobby Horses walk along the clifftops as jugglers and balloon makers entertain the children. The atmosphere is friendly and all inclusive during the day and lively in the evenings with the pubs being so full the streets are lined with people until late into the night.
The perfect place for a pub garden

There is plenty to do from young babies to old ladies. Dylan at 12 months loved bopping along to the folk and country music and watching the people and colours. Every morning there is a kid’s club with entertainment, puppet shows, music and stories and we will definitely be taking him to this next year! The pub gardens have live music for all the family and street performers juggle and make balloon animals for passers by. The parks are crowded with picnic-ers and the bandstand has seats and toilets available as well as plenty of grass. There are shows from the Morris dancers as well as plenty of people dressed up in historical Dickensian costume.
Folk week is always the second week in August and lasts from Friday to Friday. The stalls are open from early morning until around 10pm and the pubs are busy until late into the night. Although the drinking may start early for some there is a great atmosphere and we were happy to keep Dylan out until 7pm when he started getting too tired. If you do get bored of the music and activities then all the action is located right on the seafront. It is only a short walk down the steps and you are on the sandy beach!
Luckily for us the weather has been perfect this past week and we have been able to spend it all outside admiring the seaside view. We have had a fantastic week at Broadstairs folk week and the bloke picked a good time to take off work! We are looking forward to next year and taking Dylan along to the morning kid’s club so he can toddle around!
