The centre is quite small and basically is a collection of animals and birds around a central display field, and an indoor sand-pit play area.
The animal displays are birds of prey as well as other animals such as meerkats, wallabies, and donkeys, which you can feed with food you can buy from the entrance desk.
The best bit about the centre is the bird display, which happens three times a day and is worth the entrance fee in itself. The display lasts about an hour and you see three or four different types of birds of prey like owls and falcons, and learn all about them. The birds swoop down very low and occasionally a wing will clip someone’s head to lots of excited squealing. Everyone gets a turn at holding each bird and are encouraged to do so.
When we went, the rain started so the later show was moved to the indoor play area where you could still listen to the talk, and watch and hold the birds.
It is quite accessible and all on one level, apart from the slope down out of the reception, but we didn’t have many problems with our double buggy. It can get quite muddy, especially during very wet periods, so it would be wise to pack the wellies. Parking is on the main Park Rose complex and the centre is a two-minute walk away.
It is open daily from March to October. Prices are £4.50 per adult with concessions for children and senior citizens. Family tickets are available.
