Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness is somewhere I remember visiting as a child on one of our many Skegness holidays. We took our children there last year, and it’s as popular as ever.
First of all there are numerous seals and sealions. Most are ones that have been found washed up on the shores of Lincolnshire or have been sent from other seal sanctuaries in the UK. There are scheduled feeding times throughout the day where you can hear a talk about the seals and get to see them catch fish to eat. There is also a separate penguin pool.
Aww, cute. |
Then there is a reptile house. It houses turtles and crocodiles, as well as a fascinating snake skeleton.
Next, there is a butterfly and tropical bird house, which is excellent.
Outside, there is a little farmyard area with goats and sheep. There are also other small animals like guinea pigs and rabbits. You can buy a bag of goat feed from the gift shop. The meerkat mound is not too far away.
There is an aquarium with some fish, and some rather noisy exotic birds…..
….and a wonderful bin shaped like a penguin. Can’t go wrong.
The sanctuary isn’t that big and is laid out around the central seal pools. There are toilets, and it’s accessible by pushchair in most areas. The cafe is nice and not too expensive. The gift shop is a separate building and has plenty of choice.
Visit time – 2 to 3 hours.
For more information please visit their website. If you visit their website, you can print out an online voucher for a free child’s admission.
