#TeamHonk update

You probably are wondering what is happening with #TeamHonk?

You may have seen the baton winding its way up the country mile by mile. You may have seen Honkopoly and the baton’s epic trip around the London streets of the Monopoly board, or wheeling along Brighton seafront, and be wondering when the blithering-heck it’s going to be our turn.

I’ll tell you when – the baton reaches Hull on the 2nd March – it’s coming in from TeamHonkSheffield via an airplane! We have lots of people involved with the relay – bloggers and non-bloggers alike.

TeamHonkHull are three-strong. There’s me, Tami of MummyofTwo.com and Steph of MissMamosWorld.com. You might have seen me and Tami in the Hull Daily Mail recently….

We have seventy miles to cover so we have opened the event up to the wider community, stolen a blogger from over the border, and can now welcome on board……

My good friends Mark and Helen who are cycling 10 miles from the airport to hand over the baton to…..

….a team from Frillies on Wheels, a ladies cycling group who are coming over from Selby. They are taking the baton another 10 miles where they will pass it to……
…. Hulls Angels Roller Dames who are taking the baton up on to our most famous landmark, the Humber Bridge. Huge thanks to the Humber Bridge Board for allowing us aboard!

Then the Sunday Girls Road Cycling Club of Hull are taking the baton to the KC Stadium, Hull’s most recognised sporting venue.

On the 3rd March, Neil of Hull Rickshaws is taking the baton from the KC Stadium to the world-famous Hessle Road (or Essle Rurd to locals), where Tami and Steph are heading up a pram push to ASDA, dressed as embarrassingly as possible, and accompanied by Jess, Petrespect.org.uk‘s doggy mascot.

The Sunday Girls Road Cycling Club take over again and take the baton westward to the home ground of North Ferriby United “The Villagers”.

Then they will hand over to me and Stu of Hull Cycle Couriers. We are going to be cycling 30 miles. I know! What a wally. This may well be the death of me but Stu will keep going on to Selby to do the handover. Quite possibly in the dark, but we’ll see! I have a honky horn and a hi-vis vest. What more do you need?

On the 4th March, the baton is being handled entirely by Selby cycling group Frillies on Wheels. Izzy and the girls are getting their school involved in moving the baton and we expect lots of fantastic photos coming in on this day. They are cycling the 25 miles or so to Collingwood (just outside of Wetherby) in a faster time than I would – by now, I’ll be nursing my poorly legs and posterior and will have the girls waiting on me as much as possible – and leaving the baton overnight.

On the 5th March, Heather from BuryFamilyLife.co.uk is coming to run the last few miles to Harewood House, where she will hand over to #TeamHonk Bradford.

Done!

In the meantime, we are running a fundraising auction over on our Facebook page – please come and join in and bid for some Hull related prizes.

And if you’d like to donate to our leg of the relay, and sponsor a real community effort with so many people who are giving up their time to help, please go to our Team Honk Hull fundraising page.

Please stay tuned to Twitter and Instagram using #teamhonkrelay from the 2nd-5th March for news of our leg. Please RT what you can and support us on our journey as we do the whole thing completely unmotorised, and please keep your fingers crossed for fine weather. At this time last year we had snow in East Yorkshire. Shame the whole region is flat or we could have sledged it!

Tomorrow, I start cycle training. Only got to get up to 30 miles in three weeks. Easy peasy.

So look out for this wally on the roads of Hull and East Yorkshire very soon!
