Finding out about X-Rays at Thackray Medical Museum

Thackray Medical Museum, Leeds, West Yorkshire

Thackray Medical Museum is in Leeds in West Yorkshire, in the building that was once the Leeds Union Workhouse. It was re-opened in 1997 as a medical museum by the Thackray family, founders of a world-famous medical supplies company – the building once manufactured hip replacement joints and instruments for renowned hip replacement pioneer Sir John Charnley. It now houses exhibits of medical history and is a great place to learn about medicine and its impact on modern life.

Young Driver lesson

Learning road skills with Young Driver UK

As regular day trippers around the UK, we spend a lot of time on the road. I learned to drive as soon as I could afford regular lessons for myself, and it’s the best thing I ever learned. Driving has enabled me to take jobs that otherwise would have been difficult and has meant we can get to so many more places as a family. Driving has been and still is a big part of my life. The thought of my own children out there on the roads does worry me though – the roads are a lot busier now than when I was a teenager learning to drive. I’m not looking forward to them getting behind the wheel of their own car! Young Driver has come to the rescue.  Continue reading

Royal Armouries review - Leeds

Better late than never! In October 2016, we made the trip over to Leeds to visit the Royal Armouries. It’s another great free day out, but not to suit everyone’s taste. I knew that not all my girls would enjoy this one, but I made them all go anyway. It’s character building, and we needed somewhere new to see which wasn’t too far away, indoors, and didn’t blow our budget.  Continue reading
