Things to do in London with kids

London is a fantastic place to take children. It’s bustling and there is loads to do, both for free and paid. What are your favourite things to do in London with kids?

Here’s our pick of some of the best things to see and do in the UK’s capital……

The London Eye from the City Cruises boat on the Thames in London

Take a cruise up the famous River Thames. A river cruise is a great way of seeing some of London’s top sights, including the London Eye, the Tower of London, and a lot of London’s bridges. You can get a river cruise included with one of London’s bus tours or buy it as a standalone. Great fun! Read our review of our trip with City Cruises at – Thames river cruise

The Royal Mews

A trip around the inside of Buckingham Palace might not be a good idea for very young children, but a look around The Royal Mews could be! The Royal Mews is the HQ of all her Maj’s transport – horses, carriages, cars, and anything wheeled. Read our review at The Royal Mews, London

Madame Tussauds London with kids

Madame Tussauds is a lot of fun, though very busy and quite stressful. There’s a lot of waxworks to see over several floors. Kids will love the superheros gallery. The 4D film is well worth it! Read our review at Madame Tussauds, London

London Zoo

London Zoo is in Regent’s Park – about 15-30 minute walk from Camden Town tube station. There’s a huge selection of animals in residence; there’s a reptile house and a very good aquarium. Read our review – London Zoo with kids

Art at The National Gallery London

The National Gallery is a mecca of art. There’s too much to see here, like way too much, but it’s good for a quick trip in to see your favourite types of art (rooms are themed). We tend to use it for specific pieces for school project work – read our review of The National Gallery, London

I love open top bus tours! They are great for getting your bearings and seeing all the major sights in a short time. We have done Big Bus Tours – read our review at Big Bus Tours, London

The London Eye

If you want to show your kids London from up high, then The London Eye on the South Bank of the Thames is great. You can see for miles on a clear day – as far as Wembley Stadium and beyond. It gives a great view of the Houses of Parliament and down to Buckingham Palace – read our review of The London Eye

The Natural History Museum London

The Natural History Museum is a fantastic free museum with a lot to see. Learn about dinosaurs, extinct and rare animals, and how the human body works. It’s in a beautiful building too and right next door to the Science Museum. Read our review of the Natural History Museum

Launchpad at The Science Museum

Next door to the Natural History Museum is the Science Museum. As the name suggests, this is multiple floors of all things science. Well worth a visit! Read our review at The Science Museum, London

Just outside of London on the edge of Watford is Warner Bros Studios, home of the Harry Potter studio tours. This is an absolute must-do for Potter fans. We LOVE it here – read our review – Harry Potter Studios Tour
