Bondville Model Village in East Yorkshire is somewhere I remember visiting as a child, though I don’t remember much about it. It is still here going strong. It has been a bit neglected for the last few years but a change in ownership last year and an ongoing programme of refurbishment has perked it up no end.
We went there this weekend with the girls. They were fascinated.
There were lots of miniature things to look at…….
Streams and lovely country houses |
Villages with giants in them!! And a windmill. |
A castle with a piper overlooking a harbour full of disproportionately sized tadpoles |
More boats |
There were miniature people to terrorise…… |
….and miniature houses on teeny-tiny streets to tower over. |
The pint-sized shops included a Post Office. At least the little people can post their letters without having to trek ten miles. |
And I spied with my little eye a certain TV doctor |
The train came round to entertain the little (big) people. Slowly and steadily. |
- The toilets are, well, basic, but clean. There is a baby changing pull-down thing.
- The tea-rooms has indoor and outdoor seating areas, and sells drinks, lollies and various other bits.
- The village is on one level but the path narrows in parts and you would struggle with a wide wheelchair or double buggy. Single ones should be fine.
- There is a trail to complete where you get clues and find the items. There is a lollipop for each child at the end.
Bondville was fascinating for all of our party. The toddlers loved looking in all the little windows, and the five-year old and the nine-year old enthralled by the scale (or lack of it). The adults had a lot of fun with the hidden humour.
It was a great value hour or two and can be combined with a visit to nearby Sewerby Hall and Gardens, or catch the land-train down in to Bridlington.
I leave you with a little (literally) musical interlude.
