It might have been over 20 years since I left, but I’m a Devon girl at heart. So taking my kids home for a week every summer always takes me back to my childhood. Morwellham Quay was a staple day out when I was growing up. If we had visitors we took them there, School trips took us there with our friends. And if there was a weekend where we were at a bit of a loss for something to do, it was the perfect place to while away a day.

The Miniature Pony Centre, Moretonhampstead, Devon
On our recent trip to Dartmoor, the girls really wanted to meet some Dartmoor ponies. While there are plenty loose on the Dartmoor hills, it’s hard to get up close to them; it’s not guaranteed to spot them wherever you go, and it’s not a great idea to get too close to them – they are wild ponies after all. We decided instead to go to The Miniature Pony Centre near Moretonhampstead, and we are very glad we did!

River Dart Country Park, Ashburton, Devon
Words cannot adequately describe my love for the River Dart Country Park in Devon as a fantastic family holiday destination. It is the most expensive camp site we have ever visited and it was worth every penny. We stayed here in August 2016.
Dartmoor Zoological Park, Plymouth, Devon
From some very cute and playful otters to pacing wolves, and from sweet baby meerkats to full-grown hungry bears, Dartmoor Zoological Park has something for everyone and is great value for money. The home of book and Hollywood film ‘We Bought a Zoo’ (starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansen), owner Benjamin Mee lives on site and makes fairly regular appearances to sign copies of his book and answer burning questions from adults and children alike.
