Dating back to the 19th century, the zoo has been admitting paid visitors since 1847 and has seen millions of people pass through its gates. The zoo is located within London’s Regent’s Park, and covers 36 acres.

The Deep in Hull, East Yorkshire is somewhere we visit a lot. The Deep is an aquarium with fish, sharks, and is soon to be home to its first penguin collection. The Deep takes a look in to the life of oceans with displays on early marine life, and exhibitions about sea life from deep water fish to coral reefs.

Lambing at Lackham Farm, Chippenham, Wiltshire

On March 11th 2012, the husband and I took the children to Lackham Farm at the college for the first of their two annual lambing weekends. We had not been before but I had wanted to for several years. Last year luckily the weather was glorious, there was no kids football match to be played and so we were able to go and enjoy it as a family.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Bridlington, East Yorkshire

Today we visited Sewerby Hall and Gardens just to the north of Bridlington in East Yorkshire. This is a council-owned stately home with a long history over-looking the North Sea. The grounds are huge and incorporate animal paddocks, woodland walks, walled gardens and a pitch and putt golf course. 

 

There is a land train from Bridlington promenade, and a car park on site (though it can get full in the summer). Today, early in November, it was idyllic – lots of orange foliage, and hardly any visitors.

Park Rose Bird of Prey and Animal Centre, Carnaby, East Yorkshire

Park Rose Bird of Prey and Animal Centre is part of the Park Rose village just south of Bridlington in East Yorkshire.

 

The centre is quite small and basically is a collection of animals and birds around a central display field, and an indoor sand-pit play area.

Natureland Seal Sanctuary, Skegness, Lincolnshire

Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness is somewhere I remember visiting as a child on one of our many Skegness holidays. We took our children there last year, and it’s as popular as ever.

 

First of all there are numerous seals and sealions. Most are ones that have been found washed up on the shores of Lincolnshire or have been sent from other seal sanctuaries in the UK. There are scheduled feeding times throughout the day where you can hear a talk about the seals and get to see them catch fish to eat. There is also a separate penguin pool.
