We visited Norfolk in August 2013 and spent a day in Great Yarmouth.
We visited the beach. It was huge but very deceptive. The first 80% or so (the part you could see from the promenade) was lovely and golden and sandy. The remaining strip next to the sea (which you couldn’t see from the prom) was all pebble. It was very difficult and painful for the children to paddle in the sea barefoot. Clean but painful.
We had a good dig and took some photos of the seagulls.
There were some donkeys. £2.50 each per ride!! Good grief. But then, tourist season and all that.
We had a walk on the promenade up to the Winter Gardens and back along the main road.
The kids went on a ma-hoo-sive inflatable slide, of which there were lots.
We stopped at Amazonia for a little look around.
We got an ice-cream from a kiosk and sat on one of the many benches.
Then we went up to the American Diner in Joyland and ate some tea, which was pretty good.
The pier is great! There are rides at the end and the usual games of skill to win stuffed toys.
We had a lovely day in Great Yarmouth. It reminded me a lot of Skegness, which is a bit (lot) nearer home so we’ll probably just stick with Skeggy.
We parked road-side to the north of the pier and it was £5 for all day.
If you’re in East Anglia then I recommend……
I love old fashioned seasides, and this one looks great! Not been on a pier for years. I used to love wandering down them when I was little on holiday and having a go on all the rides!
We haven’t been to Great Yarmouth for years – to be honest we’ve never had a great experience there but it does look like it has improved a little! I prefer Skeggy though!
Good old fashioned beach fun, it’s a shame with the pebbles but with beach shoes I’m sure the children were fine. Lovely pictures of the girls having fun on the pier – thanks for sharing with Country Kids.
this really sounds like an amazing place xx
This sounds like a great beach to visit, with lotls of old-fashioned seaside fun. I’d love you to join in with my weekly Family Days out Linky over at mumsdotravel.com, if you’d like to!
