Today we visited Sewerby Hall and Gardens just to the north of Bridlington in East Yorkshire. This is a council-owned stately home with a long history over-looking the North Sea. The grounds are huge and incorporate animal paddocks, woodland walks, walled gardens and a pitch and putt golf course.
There is a land train from Bridlington promenade, and a car park on site (though it can get full in the summer). Today, early in November, it was idyllic – lots of orange foliage, and hardly any visitors.
First of all, we had a stroll round the animal paddocks and had a picnic on one of the benches outside the stately manor house. We admired gorgeous orange-leaved trees and watched the llamas and ponies.
Then we went to the zoo. It was £7.50 for a family of six (two adults, two children, and the two under-threes were free of charge). The zoo contained a lot of birds, and also lemurs (short clip below), monkeys, pigs, llamas, penguins (which are fed at 3pm), and lots of guinea pigs and rabbits. Our favourite were the ostriches, who tried to peck us and the babies thought it was hilarious. We spent about an hour in here. It’s a bit muddy in places and on an incline but it wasn’t too bad getting the double buggy round.
Then we went to the playground, which the girls loved. There is lots of equipment including a massive nest swing, and a huge cargo net climbing frame, as well as a few picnic tables.
Then we went to the Clock Tower cafe where we had some hot drinks, and they were very nice. We didn’t get to see much of Sewerby Hall and Gardens on this visit, but I will recommend a visit in autumn, mainly because it’s out of season and it’s not at all busy. The trees are gorgeous.
The toilets are very basic but there is a baby changing table. The cafe seems to have a reasonable selection of food on offer. In summer it gets very busy but today it was lovely. Just a bit cold, but we wrapped up warm. Perfect.
The gardens and hall have various admission prices depending on the time of year. The zoo has charges all year round (it was £2.50 for an adult, less for children, and free for under-3s).

Wow! That is so cheap! I love the spider web swing photo too.
It is a bargain in the autumn, and with a lot less people there. Well recommended. Thanks for visiting.
I love the laughter on their faces on the swing.
Popping over from Country Kids
Thank you, it’s my new favourite photo.
What an absolute bargain of a day out! Shame it’s so far from me. Looks great. Lovely photos.
It is fab. It’s more expensive in the summer as you have to pay to get into the grounds as well as the zoo, but in autumn it’s amazing. Thanks for visiting.
Looks like great fun. We have relatives up in Yorkshire so will remember this for next time we go up!
Please do. It’s lovely. I do lots of reviews on Yorkshire places, so please browse.
It sounds like very good value to me and ideal for an inexpensive afternoon out with the kids. There is something special about visiting somewhere when it is really quiet, a bit like Coombemill in January! Thank you for linking up with Country Kids. It is a lovely post to share.
Thank you, and for the opportunity to share it with others.
