Wembley Stadium Tour, London

Supporting Chester FC means trips to Wembley have been non existent over the years so when we invited to the capital to visit the national stadium we knew it would be pretty different to the usual rope around a field, dog poo pitches that we’re used to in the lower leagues!

Wembley Park tube station serves the area and as we stepped out of the station, we were greeted with the magnificent sight of the famous stadium with its towering arch which can be seen right across London’s skyline.

Lambing at Lackham Farm, Chippenham, Wiltshire

On March 11th 2012, the husband and I took the children to Lackham Farm at the college for the first of their two annual lambing weekends. We had not been before but I had wanted to for several years. Last year luckily the weather was glorious, there was no kids football match to be played and so we were able to go and enjoy it as a family.

Sledging. Everywhere.

For us, it has been the perfect weather for one of our favourite days out – sledging!!


We live in a very flat area of the UK and really only have one hilly bit, and it gets very popular. But you can’t beat sledging. It’s fun, free, and with a hint of peril.

Just remember to wrap up warm, take a flask, and park your car carefully if you need to drive. Take car blankets and tyre mats just in case. And a warm fluffy towel. Don’t forget your sledge. Continue reading →

Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Bridlington, East Yorkshire

Today we visited Sewerby Hall and Gardens just to the north of Bridlington in East Yorkshire. This is a council-owned stately home with a long history over-looking the North Sea. The grounds are huge and incorporate animal paddocks, woodland walks, walled gardens and a pitch and putt golf course. 
 
There is a land train from Bridlington promenade, and a car park on site (though it can get full in the summer). Today, early in November, it was idyllic – lots of orange foliage, and hardly any visitors.

Paddington Bear at the National Railway Museum, York

This October half-term, the National Railway Museum in York are playing host to everyone’s favourite Peruvian immigrant – Paddington Bear. The museum and the Paddington Bear exhibition is completely free. A fuller review of the museum itself can be found here – National Railway Museum, York.
 
The Paddington Bear exhibition is fun and aimed at children aged from 3 to 8. There are Paddington related activities scheduled throughout the day, including storytelling sessions, and a bear trail.

Pollok Park, Glasgow, Scotland

After more than a decade living in Glasgow, Pollok Country Park to me is still a gem in the city. Before I had children, I had my allotment there, went running in the large expanse of this urban park with a real country feel to it, or visited the Burrell collection, one of the finest museums of Scotland and possibly the UK. Now, with children, the park still has a magic spell, and never more so than in winter. Continue reading →

Culzean Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland

Culzean Castle is a bit further afield but definitely worth the trip. The castle is set in stunning grounds with views across the isle of Arran (and other islands in the vicinity) and Ailsa Craig. There are long walks along the cliffs of the Ayrshire coast, along lakes and ponds, walled gardens and even to a port.
