Alternative Christmas Gift Ideas for Families and Children
What do you get the family or child for Christmas who already has everything they could possibly need? More plastic tat? Or something that’s going to provide memories that last longer than the wrapping paper?
We’re a big fan here of buying experiences rather than stuff. Are you?

We spent the weekend as guests of Visit Leicester, trying out a whole host of things that Leicester has to offer residents and visitors over Christmas. We had a great stay and can highly recommend Leicester as a place for Christmas shopping and festive fun!
During our trip, we visited the Christmas Market, the ice rink and the Christmas Wheel of Light in Jubilee Square, had dinner at Peter Pizzeria, and saw Scrooge the Musical at Curve. We stayed overnight at the Ramada Encore on Charles Street which is very handy for Curve and for the shopping district.
Visiting Santa at Chill Factore, Manchester
I know it’s still November but we’re feeling all Christmassy already here and are excited about the prospect of a snowy winter this year after a couple of dry years. When Chill Factor-e in Manchester invited us to go and try out their indoor Snow Park with a visit to Santa thrown in we jumped at the chance. Continue reading
Visiting Santa at Eureka!, Halifax, West Yorkshire
This weekend we trotted over to West Yorkshire to the National children’s museum Eureka! to once again see Santa. We love Santa and had heard nothing but good things about the museum. We were invited to the VIP launch event of the new grotto at Princes Quay shopping centre, in Hull. We’d spent the week recovering from double illnesses, and needed to get out and see other people. A trip to Santa was the perfect excuse. Continue reading
Christmas gifts for fun-seeking families
Yes I know it’s still October but I like being prepared and I’m feeling a bit left out as the rest of the blogging world seem to be circulating their Christmas gift guides already. I thought I’d do one for those who love days out and travel. Continue reading
Butlin’s Christmas Party break – Skegness, 27th – 30th December
For the third year in a row we spent that awkward bit between Christmas and New Year at Butlin’s Skegness on their “Christmas Party” break. This starts on the 27th December and ends on the 30th. Continue reading
Visiting Santa at Princes Quay, Hull
Santa arrives at Princes Quay shopping centre in Hull via a parade which sets off from Hull New Theatre at 11am on Sunday 16th November. He will be joined by the Frozen gang as well as a brass band and lots of people representing organisations across the city. We sent Claire, her fiance Ben, and their brood of four to put Santa through his paces ahead of his stint. Continue reading
