East Park, Hull, East Yorkshire

During the Summer holidays of 2020 – you know, the one we will remember forever as the longest school holidays ever – we were invited to East Park in Hull to try out the paid attractions.

East Park is a great place to visit. I was brought up a short walk from here and have witnessed the changes over the years. It’s better than ever before and is a lovely place for a family day out.

This post is part of our FREE Family Days out in Yorkshire series

Yorkshire Sculpture Park is just off J38 of the M1 north of Sheffield, and it is HUGE. It is the very extensive grounds of Bretton Hall, and it has been turned into a home for works of art from a wide range of sculptors, including Henry Moore, and Antony Gormley.

Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington, East Yorkshire

This post has been updated – see Burnby Hall Gardens, East Yorkshire for our visit in 2021

Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum is in Pocklington, East Yorkshire, just off the A1079 south-east of York. It is the grounds of an old stately home, and it is absolutely beautiful. It is somewhere I have been meaning to visit for years, having driven by it several (hundred) times on my way to York, and I’m sorry we haven’t been before, because we had the most wonderful time.

Elsham Hall Gardens and Country Park, Brigg, Lincolnshire

We visited on a glorious bank holiday Monday, and it seemed that plenty of other people thought it was a good idea too. It opened at 11 o clock, just as we were arriving and the cars were cramming in, and there was already a queue (not too long though) at the entrance desk.

Pearson Park, Hull, East Yorkshire

Pearson Park is a Victorian park situated about 2 miles north of the city centre in the leafy Avenues area of Hull. It is popular with university students, and local families.

This week we have had some visitors over from New Zealand and they were keen to see some squirrels so we went to Pearson Park to see if any were willing to show themselves off.

Peppa Pig World and Paultons Park, Southampton, Hampshire

Paultons Park is a theme park in Hampshire. Part of the park has recently become Peppa Pig World. If you have children who are fans of the round, porky one, then this is the place for them, even if you can’t think of anything worse than spending a large chunk of your day queuing with excited, over-tired 4 year olds.
