February saw the twins’ seventh birthday. Instead of a party, we decided to spend the money doing something they really wanted to do instead. They decided on a trip to London. They wanted to see where the Queen lived, and where Paddington was filmed. While this wouldn’t be my first trip to London (understatement!) it would be theirs, and I thought the best thing would be to show them as many as the famous sights as possible. City Cruises invited us to try out their River Thames cruise, and it was perfect for seeing some of the most popular sights in London. Have you ever done a river cruise?

YHA London St Pauls
We loved our trip to YHA Grinton Lodge so much that we decided we’d seek out another YHA on our recent trip to London. We plumped for YHA London St Paul’s, which handily enough, is a short walk from St Paul’s Cathedral. We had another good stay and we would highly recommend YHA to families like ours.
6 Reasons to Visit Utah with Kids
The USA is somewhere we’ve not visited as a family. I think part of the reason is the vast choice of places available to visit, which is creating that indecision about where we should go. There’s New York of course for a city break, or Las Vegas for the bright lights and fun, and Florida for the sunshine and theme parks. But that’s not all that the USA has to offer. There are 50 states in the US, each one different in landscape and culture, and each with their own sights to see. Continue reading
How I Ended up with a German TV Crew in my Living Room
One Saturday evening in January 2018, a German TV crew came to my house. It’s a normal house in a quiet suburb in East Yorkshire. We don’t make a habit of attracting three (very tall) Germans with industrial AV equipment, but that evening was a little bit different.
This is the story of how producer Stefan and his camera and sound guys ended up in our house. Continue reading
Peter Pizzeria, Leicester
Our Christmas jaunt around Leicester city centre to go ice-skating in Jubilee Square and on the Christmas Wheel of Light left us hungry and in need of refreshment. Peter Pizzeria honourably stepped in so we were all refuelled and ready for our night at Curve to see Scrooge the Musical.
Ramada Encore, Leicester
We stayed at the Ramada Encore for one night in December 2017 in order to explore what Leicester has to offer shoppers and leisure visitors at Christmas. Continue reading
Scrooge the Musical, Curve, Leicester
During our Christmas trip to Leicester, we were lucky enough to be able to see Scrooge the Musical at Curve. Directed by Curve Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, the show is a musical romp through Charles Dickens’ famous tale A Christmas Carol, a story about Ebenezer Scrooge and his redemption one Christmas Eve. It really is very good. Continue reading
Jubilee Square Ice Rink and the Christmas Wheel of Light, Leicester
We spent the weekend as guests of Visit Leicester, trying out a whole host of things that Leicester has to offer residents and visitors over Christmas. We had a great stay and can highly recommend Leicester as a place for Christmas shopping and festive fun!
During our trip, we visited the Christmas Market, the ice rink and the Christmas Wheel of Light in Jubilee Square, had dinner at Peter Pizzeria, and saw Scrooge the Musical at Curve. We stayed overnight at the Ramada Encore on Charles Street which is very handy for Curve and for the shopping district.
Meeting the Gruffalo’s Child at Hull Truck Theatre
A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good.
If you recognise these opening lines then no doubt you have a Gruffalo fan in your family. And if you’re a fan of the Gruffalo, then you may have also read The Gruffalo’s Child. The story of The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson has been brought to life by Tall Stories, and we were invited to go and see it live on stage at Hull Truck Theatre, and also to meet one of the cast. Review: Kalahari Elite 8 from Go Outdoors
We bought a Kalahari Elite 8 from Go Outdoors this year as an upgrade on our trusty Outwell Birdland 5. Mainly because as a family of six who aren’t getting any smaller, we needed more space.
