This is a guest post about The Hawk Conservancy Trust in Hampshire by Emma of Bavarian Sojourn. Emma is a Mum of three, a recent repatriate to the UK after a lengthy stint abroad, and she last visited the Hawk Conservancy when she was around 11 years old (and she’s not going to tell you how long ago that was!)…

The Miniature Pony Centre, Moretonhampstead, Devon
On our recent trip to Dartmoor, the girls really wanted to meet some Dartmoor ponies. While there are plenty loose on the Dartmoor hills, it’s hard to get up close to them; it’s not guaranteed to spot them wherever you go, and it’s not a great idea to get too close to them – they are wild ponies after all. We decided instead to go to The Miniature Pony Centre near Moretonhampstead, and we are very glad we did!
Abbotsbury Children’s Farm, Dorset
Up the road from Abbotsbury Swannery and part of the trio of attractions in Abbotsbury is Abbotsbury Children’s Farm. It’s a nice little farm for younger children with a mix of animal attractions and play areas.
Abbotsbury Swannery, Dorset
Abbotsbury in Dorset is home to a trio of wonderful attractions. In June 2017, we were invited to have a look around Abbotsbury Swannery during their baby swans event, and we had a great time. If you’re fans of wildlife, then this place is well worth a visit.

Visiting The Deep, Hull with Charlie Bear
It’s been a while since we visited The Deep in Hull. While not much really changes year on year – which my children LOVE by the way! – we do like visiting and seeing the wonderful array of sealife on display, including numerous fish and rays, sharks, and more recently, penguins.
Sea Life Manchester, Trafford Centre, Manchester
The first full day of our Manchester mini-break saw us drive the few miles around the M62 and M60 to the Intu Trafford Centre. Our first appointment was with the Sea Life Manchester, an attraction that opened in 2013. Continue reading
South Lakes Safari Zoo, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria
Day three of our Lake District holiday and we ventured a bit further afield – to South Lakes Safari Zoo, which is around a 1hr 30 minute drive from our Penrith base. We had heard that it was excellent value and great for children, so we thought we’d give it a whirl.
Longleat, Warminster, Wiltshire
Longleat is an estate in Wiltshire comprising an animal adventure park, a safari drive, and a stately home and gardens. It is huge. We spent several hours here and didn’t get to see everything. Continue reading
Twycross Zoo, Atherstone, Warwickshire
Twycross Zoo is twice the size of London Zoo but with fewer animals. It makes for a very pleasant day out, rain or shine, of which we had both on the day of our visit.
We visited one changeable Sunday using the tickets we had left as part of the #StayPlayExplore deal. We highly recommend a trip to Twycross Zoo. Continue reading
