The last day of our Lake District holiday was a bit fraught as I’d mistakenly thought that check-out time was 11am when it was in fact 10am. Oops. While the girls were off out of the way swimming with Dad, I was frantically packing us all back into our car, and preparing a picnic for our stopover point of White Scar Caves, which is near Ingleton and on our way back to our Yorkshire home. Day four of our Lake District adventure and we set off for Dockray to do another first – see an actual real-life waterfall. As we live in a watery but very flat area of the UK, a decent waterfall is something which the children have never seen. We thought we should use the opportunity of being in the Lake District to visit one.
South Lakes Safari Zoo, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria
Day three of our Lake District holiday and we ventured a bit further afield – to South Lakes Safari Zoo, which is around a 1hr 30 minute drive from our Penrith base. We had heard that it was excellent value and great for children, so we thought we’d give it a whirl.
Keswick Climbing Wall, Keswick, Cumbria
Day two of our Lake District adventure and the morning saw us take advantage of the resort’s very nice swimming pool.
After a refreshing swim and some quick lunch, we drove the twenty minutes to the popular town of Keswick, and paid a visit to Keswick Climbing Wall and Outdoor Activity Centre. Continue reading
Lakes Aquarium, Newby Bridge, Cumbria
Day one of our Lake District adventure and our trip on Windermere Lake Cruises took us to Lakeside where we disembarked and had a little visit to Lakes Aquarium, which is right next door to Lakeside harbour, and is brilliant for a more inclement day, which true to form, it was!
Windermere Lake Cruises, The Lake District
Day one of our Lake District adventure saw us drive south for an hour to Bowness-on-Windermere and our children experience something I think was a first for them – go on a proper boat. Continue reading
A trip to Normanby Hall, Lincolnshire
Recently, my three younger children went to Normanby Hall in North Lincolnshire with their grandparents. I armed them with a camera and told them to tell me all about it when they got home.
This is the result, as told by my seven-year old. Continue reading
