Middleham Castle, Middleham, North Yorkshire
Middleham Castle near Leyburn in North Yorkshire is most famous as being the childhood home of Richard III. You know, the one they recently dug up from under a car park in Leicester, and subject of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. It’s not as homely now, but it makes a fascinating day out, and all for free if you are a member of English Heritage.
Clent Hills, Romsley, West Midlands
Clent Hills camping and caravanning site was a great halfway point between our trip to River Dart Country Park and our home back in Yorkshire. It was quite different to our previous destination, but provided a good base to explore the West Midlands – somewhere where we aren’t familiar with. We visited in August 2016.
River Dart Country Park, Ashburton, Devon
Words cannot adequately describe my love for the River Dart Country Park in Devon as a fantastic family holiday destination. It is the most expensive camp site we have ever visited and it was worth every penny. We stayed here in August 2016.
The Augustin, Brussels, Belgium
The Augustin in Brussels was a fantastic hotel for us on our girly trip back in July. We highly recommend it for a family stay. We stayed here for three nights across Belgian National Day in July 2016. Continue reading
The Wardonia, Kings Cross, London
The Wardonia Hotel in Kings Cross in London is a perfectly functional hotel very close to Kings Cross station and St Pancras and ideal for a short stop over. While I wouldn’t call this hotel luxury in any way, it was better than I expected and well worth the money. Continue reading
The Parlamentarium, Brussels, Belgium
Some days out are planned weeks and months in advance, some I wake up and decide that’s where we are going today, and others I make a decision in a split second. The Parlamentarium in Brussels certainly falls into the last category. I didn’t know this place existed five minutes before we were walking through the door, and I’m so glad I decided to investigate. Didn’t we have a lovely time? #DWHALT September 2016
That’s it – the summer is almost over and the children are well and truly back into the old routine. Didn’t it go too fast?
Have you had the chance to catch those last heady days of summer before we turn back the clocks and start thinking about pumpkins and bonfires, and dare I say it yet, Christmas?
6 things to do at Tophill Low, East Yorkshire
Yorkshire Water very kindly sent us a brilliant picnic rucksack, so we decided to head up to Tophill Low, near Watton in East Yorkshire to have a spot of afternoon tea on a fine September afternoon.
Tophill Low is owned and managed by Yorkshire Water and is a great place to go for a walk in the fresh air, do some bird-spotting, and of course, have a picnic. Continue reading
Black Country Living Museum, Dudley, West Midlands
The Black Country Living Museum is an open air museum taking you back to the past of the Black Country. It has a mix of original and re-created industrial, commercial, and residential buildings from centuries and decades past. It is hugely educational and a great day out.
