Middleham Castle near Leyburn in North Yorkshire is most famous as being the childhood home of Richard III. You know, the one they recently dug up from under a car park in Leicester, and subject of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. It’s not as homely now, but it makes a fascinating day out, and all for free if you are a member of English Heritage.

The Parlamentarium, Brussels, Belgium

Some days out are planned weeks and months in advance, some I wake up and decide that’s where we are going today, and others I make a decision in a split second. The Parlamentarium in Brussels certainly falls into the last category. I didn’t know this place existed five minutes before we were walking through the door, and I’m so glad I decided to investigate.  Continue reading
